Why does God allow evil men to have power?

Question: “When God could stop evil men from coming to power, why does God allow evil men to have power?”

Bible Answers

God is sovereign over the kings and rulers of nations. …he sets up kings and deposes them (Daniel 2:21).  And God says, There is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God (Romans 13:1).  When Paul wrote this startling scripture, wicked Nero was persecuting the Christians, yet he does not question why God put Nero in power.

In Acts 8, we see the early church being persecuted. But God’s plan was accomplished by the persecution. It scattered the early Christians throughout Judea and Samaria (Acts 8:1-4).  Thusly the early church spread throughout most of the known world and it grew.

God’s Word does not explain why He permits evil men to rule, however God has used evil rulers to bring about judgment on His people who have turned away and to bring them back to righteousness.
