Can generational sins be passed on?
Question: “Can generational sins be passed on to newer generations? Many of the problems we experience today are the sins of pasted generations that have never been broken. How can these links be broken?”
God created a system to join, strengthen, and protect those who walk with Christ, but Satan has taken this system and distorted it. When misused, God said, You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me (Exodus 20:5). There is a soul tie or connection to things of the past in which sins of past generations are passed onto us. When two people with sins come together, they both pass their sins onto their children, and grandchildren, etc. Past sins may be spiritual, sexual immorality, murder, stealing, etc. Soul ties can also be past generations that belonged to social organizations that worshipped Satan’s kingdoms.
The next generations will experiences the penalty of the fathers’ sins. We are not told how the fathers’ sins become the children’s sins. But what we are told is that when the father’s sins are visited on the children it is because the children are also sinful. We see this for example, when the father is a drunk, the children often become drunks and pass it onto their children. That is the form in which the fathers’ sins are visited. Therefore, all judgment is really deserved by the person who is punished.
Because of God’s grace, which is secured by Christ, the children can confess their own sins and the sins of their fathers and be forgiven and accepted by God.
But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their fathers…then when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they make amends for their sin, I will remember my covenant with Jacob (Leviticus 26:40-
We can pray, “In Jesus’ name, I proclaim the destruction of all ungodly soul ties, generational sins, spiritual transfers, and demonic connections. I command all these things to leave every part of my mind, body, and life. I renounce anything that I have received from Satan’s kingdom and I reclaim all that I have lost or that has been stolen from me, in Jesus’ name.”
