What are God’s commandments for me?

Question: “We are often told to obey God’s commandments, but what are God’s commandments and direction for living a life pleasing to God?”

Bible Answers

The following are New Testament commandments for God’s children.

Acknowledging God

Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven (Matthew 10:32-33).

Adultery

You shall not commit adultery. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart (Matthew 5:27-28).

Anger

let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls (James 1:19-21).

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil (Ephesians 4:26-27).

Association

I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler—not even to eat with such a one (1 Corinthians 5:11).

Ambassador

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us (2 Corinthians 5:20).

Anxious

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God (Philippians 4:6).

Arguing

But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another (Galatians 5:15).

Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them (Titus 3:10).

Armor

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-11).

Authority

be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work (Titus 3:1).

Baptized

And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins” (Acts 2:38).

Believe

Everything is possible for him who believes (Mark 9:23).

Bitterness

Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice (Ephesians 4:31).

Boasting

Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord (2 Corinthians 10:17).

May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ (Galatians 6:14).

Calling

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love (Ephesians 4:1-2).

Captive

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ (Colossians 2:8).

Character

Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good character.” Come back to your senses, as is right, and stop sinning (1 Corinthians 15:33-34).

Children

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (Ephesians 6:1-2).

Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord (Colossians 3:20).

Church Meeting

Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another (Hebrews 10:25).

Cleansing Ourselves

let us cleanse ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the reverence of God (2 Corinthians 7:1).

Commandment

A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another (John 13:34).

And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us (1 John 3:23).

Communion

And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you (Luke 22:19-20).

Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself (1 Corinthians 11:28-29).

Confess

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

Death, Sin

Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry (Colossians 3:5).

Debt

Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed. Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law (Romans 13:7,8).

Deceive

Jesus said to them: “Watch out that no one deceives you (Mark 13:5).

Little children, let no man deceive you: he that does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous (1 John 3:7).

Devil

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7).

Discipline

My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, and do not lose heart when rebuked by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves (Hebrews 12:5-6).

Disqualified

Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind (Colossians 2:18).

Divorce

So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate (Matthew 19:6).

Do

Apart from me you can do nothing (John 15:5).

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him (Colossians 3:17).

Examine Self

Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test (2 Corinthians 13:5).

Evangelism

Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field (Matthew 9:38).

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15).

Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord (2 Timothy 1:8).

Evil

But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also (Matthew 5:39).

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:17,21).

Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward (2 John 8).

Example

I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you (John 13:15).

Faith

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ (Romans 10:17).

But without faith it is impossible to please God: for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6).

But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit (Jude 20).

False Prophets

Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them (Matthew 7:15-16).

False Teachers

command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversies rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith (1 Timothy 1:3-4).

Family

But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever (1 Timothy 5:8).

Father

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4).

Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged (Colossians 3:21).

Favoritism

But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors (James 2:9).

Fighting

What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask (James 4:1-2).

Forgiving

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins (Matthew 6:14-15).

If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them (Luke 17:3-4).

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you (Ephesians 4:32).

Freedom

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery (Galatians 5:1).

Friendship with the World

You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God (James 4:4).

Fruit of the Spirit

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires (Galatians 5:22-24).

Giver

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:6-7).

God’s Glory

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10.31).

Government

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment (Romans 13:1-2).

Greatest Commandments

Jesus was asked, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:36-39).

Grieving the Holy Spirit

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30).

Grumble

Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door (James 5:9).

Guard against the enemy

Be on guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage, be strong. Do everything in love (1 Corinthians 16:13).

take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability (2 Peter 3:17).

Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward (2 John 8).

Heart

Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts (Hebrews 4:7).

let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings (Hebrews 10:22).

Heaven, Entering

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven (Matthew 7:21).

Help

If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person (1 John 3:17)?

Humility

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others (Philippians 2:3-4).

Husbands

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word (Ephesians 5:25-26).

In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church (Ephesians 5:28-29).

Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them (Colossians 3:19).

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh (Ephesians 5:31).

Imitator of God

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God (Ephesians 5:1-2).

Immorality

But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God (Ephesians 5:3-5).

Jesus Knocking

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me (Revelation 3:20).

Judging

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. (Matthew 7:1-2).

You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat (Romans 14:10).

Jealousy

For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice (James 3:16).

Kingdom

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (Matthew 6:33).

Law

For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Galatians 5:14).

Leaders

But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction (1 Thessalonians 5:12).

Life Assigned

let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him (1 Corinthians 7:17).

Life Guidance

make every effort to add to your faith goodness, and goodness with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly kindness, and brotherly kindness with love (2 Peter 1:5-7).

Lifted Up

the Son of Man must be lifted up [exalted] that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life (John 3:14-15).

Lord’s Will

Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that” (James 4:15).

Love

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind … and Love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-39).

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer (Romans 12:9, 12).

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth (1 Corinthians 13:4-6).

Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law (Romans 13:10).

Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another (1 John 4:11).

Love Enemies

But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful (Luke 6:27-28,36).

Marriage

To the married I give this charge (not I, but the Lord): the wife should not separate from her husband but if she does, she should remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband, and the husband should not divorce his wife. To the rest I say (I, not the Lord) that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her. If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him. But if the unbelieving partner separates, let it be so. In such cases the brother or sister is not enslaved (1 Corinthians 7:10-13,15).

Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the adulterous and sexually immoral (Hebrews 13:4).

Masters

No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money (Matthew 6:24).

Men

I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling (1 Timothy 2:8).

Mind

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things (Colossians 3:2).

Money

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have (Hebrews 13:5).

Murder

Do not murder and anyone who murders will be subject to judgement (Matthew 5:21).

New Self

put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:22-24).

Oath

Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool … All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one (Matthew 5:33-35, 37).

Parents

Honor your father and your mother (Mark 7:10).

Peaceful Living

So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil (2 Timothy 2:22-24).

Persecuted

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse (Romans 12:14).

Prayer

This is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts [sins], as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. (Matthew 6:9-13).

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him (1 John 5:14-15).

Prayer of Faith

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven (James 5:13-15).

Prayer with Persistence

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened (Matthew 7:7-8). Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up (Luke 18.1).

Prayer, The Only Prayer Commanded

The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest (Luke 10:2).

Pride

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think (Romans 12:3).

Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited (Romans 12:16).

Prison

Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body (Hebrews 13:3).

Rejoice

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice (Philippians 4:4).

Righteousness

Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness — and he was called a friend of God (James 2:23).

Remarriage

I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery (Matthew 19:9).

Reaps

Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (Galatians 6:8-9).

Religion

If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless (James 1:26).

Renewed Mind

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:2).

Repent

the kingdom of God is at hand: repent and believe the gospel (Mark 1:15).

Restore Sinner

Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted (Galatians 6:1).

Riches

But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils (1 Timothy 6:9-10).

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God (1 Timothy 6:17).

Righteousness

For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed — a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith” (Romans 1:17).

Salvation

if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;  for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation (Romans 10:9-10).

If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left (Hebrews 10:26).

Satan, Over Coming

I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions [evil spirits] and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you (Luke 10:19).

Seen

As we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are temporary, but the things that are unseen are eternal (2 Corinthians 4:18).

Self

But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator (Colossians 3:8-10).

Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience (Colossians 3:12).

Self Test

Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else (Galatians 6:4).

Sexual Immorality

Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body (1 Corinthians 6:18).

Share

Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality (Romans 12.13).

Sin

everything that does not come from faith is sin (Romans 14:23).

Cast not away therefore your confidence, which has a great reward (Hebrews 10:35).

If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life (1 John 5:16).

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:8-9).

Sin In the Church

If your brother sins against you, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If he listen to you, you have won your brother over. 16 But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses. If he still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector (Matthew 18:15-17).

Slander

Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge (James 4:11).

Stranger

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for so doing some have entertained angels without knowing it (Hebrews 13:2).

Spirit

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh (Galatians 5:16).

praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication (Ephesians 6:18).

Talk

Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone (Colossians 4:5-6).

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear (Ephesians 4:29).

Teaching

Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, which have not benefited those devoted to them (Hebrews 13:9).

Temptation

But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death (James 1:14-15).

Thanks

giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5:20).

Treating Others

to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people (Titus 3:2).

Thief

Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need (Ephesians 4:28).

Thinking

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things (Philippians 4:8).

Treasures.

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth … But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19-20).

Trust

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him (Romans 15:13).

Walk

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:15-16).

War

For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).

Warning

Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thessalonians 5:14-18).

Take care, brethren, that there not be in anyone of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God (Hebrews 3:12).

Watch

Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come (Matthew 24:42).

Way To The Father

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

Wisdom

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind (James 1:5-6).

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man (Matthew 7:24).

Wives

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands (Ephesians 5:22-24).

Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord (Colossians 3:18).

Women

likewise a women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works. Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness (1 Timothy 2:9-11).

Worldly Love

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him (1 John 2:15).

Work

Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent (John 6:29).

Workers

Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field (Matthew 9:38).

Whatever you do, work with all your heartily, as for the Lord and not for men (Colossians 3:23).

Those who have believing masters must not be disrespectful on the ground that they are brothers; rather they must serve all the better since those who benefit by their good service are believers and beloved (1 Timothy 6:2).

Worry

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself (Matthew 6:25, 34).
