What is a summary of God’s plan?

Question: “What is a summary of God’s plan for me and for all of mankind?”

Bible Answers

By His choice, God’s power on earth is limited until Christ returns. To demonstrate this limitation, I offer you an analogy between God and a farmer.

In Genesis 1 and 2, we see that in the beginning, God created the earth and the earth was without form.  And the farmer bought a tract of land and the land was barren.

And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament.  And the farmer installed irrigation.

And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind. And the farmer planted various crops.

God then decided it was time to make man. And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul (Genesis 2:7).

Now the farmer had worked many years developing his farm, and decided to take life easy and let someone else work his farm.  So he leased his farm out to another farmer. By leasing out his farm, he gave complete dominion over the entire farm to the new farmer, the tenant. As with a typical lease, the old farmer, the landlord, surrenders his right to even enter the farm until the lease expires.

After God made man, he decided to give man dominion over the earth, making man as God of the earth.  …and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth (Genesis 1:26).  God gave man dominion over all the earth.

Like the farmer, when God gave man dominion over the earth, He in effect was leasing earth to man. Now God still owned the earth, but by giving control to man, God was surrendering His power and authority over the earth to man, with a few exceptions as detailed below. The heavens are the Lord's heavens, but the earth he has given to the children of man (Psalm 115:16). And all was perfect in the Garden of Eden, with God walking daily with Adam and Eve until Satan came and deceived Adam and Eve, just like he deceives us today, and by his deception, acquired mankind’s lease to the earth and Satan became the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4) … and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one (1 John 5:19).

Because the devil owns the earth’s lease, God doesn’t come back to earth to destroy the devil and all evil.  To do so at this time would violate God’s Word.  God says in Psalm 89:34,  My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. God cannot lie. God has limited Himself until the lease expires. God no longer had the right to enter onto earth because Satan now held the lease.  God in effect, like the farmer, had become the landlord until the time the lease expires.

God’s Plan

But God was not caught unaware of what would happen. Since the beginning of time, God had a plan, a plan to accomplish His will legally.

It is a scientific fact that the blood of a child comes from the father. The sins of the father are passed through the blood to the unborn child.  Exodus 20:5 and Deuteronomy 5:9 say, I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children.  As God the Father is sinless, so Jesus was born sinless and remained sinless throughout His life.  Now Jesus was able to enter the world legally, born as a man, born of a woman, born as a resident of earth.

Christ came legally to earth, proclaimed the way to salvation, laid the foundation for His church, paid for our sins on the cross, broke Satan’s power, and returned to heaven. But when Jesus died, He lost His physical body and His residency on earth.  He gained back His glorified body and His position as God in heaven, and He became the landlord of earth.  While Jesus defeated the power of Satan, God still honors His word and lets Satan remain until the lease expires.

Like the farmer landlord who lost his right to visit his farm unless invited by a resident of the farm, Jesus lost the right to visit earth unless invited by a resident of earth. Jesus is normally invited by the saint’s prayers. Within God’s plan, He has elected to normally work through His saints to bring the truth to the unsaved.  It is the prayers of the saints that give God a legal right to operate in the lives of mankind on earth until Satan’s lease is up.

Faith

God moves through the open door that the saint’s prayers provide. Faith being believing in God and His Word. But if the saint’s faith is week, then the door may remain closed and God may be limited in what He may do until doubt is removed.  It is not that God does not have the power to do whatever He desires, but that God is honoring His word until the end of the lease.

What was and was not Jesus’ Authority on earth

We can determine what Jesus’ authority was from scripture. He had authority to heal, to raise the dead, to cast out demons, to command nature and the weather, to bless, and he was able to do these from a distance. His authority was also limited by disbelief, such as when in His hometown, where He “could not” perform many miracles because of their disbelief.  Regarding lack of authority, Jesus did not have authority to force anyone to believe in Him, nor is there any indication that Jesus had any authority over governments and nations while on earth.

Jesus’ areas of authority are important, as these are the areas of authority that Jesus gave to the church.

What is and is not Satan’s Authority

The control that Satan had is no greater than the control than Adam had.  We learn from scripture that God retained certain rights, such as protection of His saints and requiring Satan to ask for permission to exceed his limits such as in Job 1 & 2, and asking to …sift Peter like wheat (Luke 22:31). God also retained control over governments and nations. Jesus replied to Pilot, "You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above" (John 19:10-11). And Daniel 2:21 says, he [God] removes kings and sets up kings.

Obviously, God has retained certain areas of control that limits Satan’s power.  Satan’s greatest weapon against individuals, business, churches, and government, is deceptive thoughts by which Satan controls both the minds of the unsaved and many of the saved to perform his bidding and his evil.

Satan can also convince us that we are becoming sick by his deception, “I believe that I am coming down with the flu,” we claim it and by the authority of our word, we become sick. Satan can also inflict us with sickness. …and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown (Job 2:7).

God and Satan’s Objective

Both God’s objective and Satan’s objective are the same, possessing our souls.  Satan retains our soul through deception and God gains our soul with the truth, but the choice of who wins belongs to man.  Satan, The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy (John 10:10), and to keep mankind from worshipping God.

Jesus’ Victory over Death

Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery (Hebrews 2:14-15). Satan’ control over mankind’s spiritual death was broken on the cross.

Transfer of Power and Our Authority

When Jesus returned to heaven, He lost His earthy right to operate as a man. He was no longer a resident of earth but the landlord of earth. As such, He gave His power and authority against Satan to the church. The church is still on earth and operating legally as a resident of earth. Nowhere in the NT will you find a prayer asking God to cast the devil out or away on our behalf. Why, because Jesus does not have the authority to caste Satan out as the saints of the church of Christ now hold that authority. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues… they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover (Mark 16:17-18). I give you authority to tread… over ALL the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19).  Jesus gave His authority to the church and if the church wants to see anything happen to Satan and His work, it is their responsibility to come against Satan, not Gods. God has done all that He will do about Satan; Jesus won the victory on the cross. Now it is our responsibility. Satan’s kingdom will end when his lease expires (Rev 20:1-10).

And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction (Matthew 10:1).

For, You are of God, little children, and have overcome them [evil spirits], because He [Jesus] who is in you is greater than he [Satan] who is in the world (1 John 4:4). This is a key consideration.  While Satan is powerful, Jesus, who is in us, is more powerful, and we have a power-of-attorney to use this power to come against evil.

Our Responsibility

As Jesus’ body, we have a responsibility to continue what Jesus did while on earth.  He came to destroy the works of the devil – casting out demons, healing, and raising the dead.  And He has given us His power and authority to do so.  Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father (John 14:12).

Jesus is saying, as the Landlord, I cannot directly do it anymore. It is now up to you to destroy the works of the devil.  He gave us the responsibility.

All too often we do not have because we keep praying for God to cast out demons, heal us, and provide prosperity when we are not willing to lift a finger to exercise the authority and power that God has given us.

We need to understand that we are sons of God, created in His image. We have a right and responsibility to exercise dominion on earth under God’s covenant with man. And God said to Abraham, As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come (Genesis 17:9).

if it [a nation] does evil in My sight by not obeying My voice, then I will think better of the good with which I had promised to bless it (Jer. 18:7-10).  God's people are admonished to pray for their nation (Jer. 29:7, 1 Tim. 2:1-4). We are to look to God for everything—even for good government.

God works through His children and needs the prayers of His children to interrelate with mankind.  And this is why Satan has tried hard over the years to eliminate the church, because without the church, without Christians, God would not have a legal right to affect mankind. Without the church to enforce God’s authority against Satan, Satan would have complete control of mankind.

Evangelism

One of God’s greatest characteristics is His love for us and His desire that we share that love with the lost of the world that they may be saved and have a relationship with Him. He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation (Mark 16:15). The world is large, but it starts with your own family, friends, and co-workers.

The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Matthew 9:37-38). Each of us is commanded to pray for laborers to tell the world About Jesus Christ.  And who are the laborers?  As God’s children, we are the laborers who are to tell others about the Lord’s love and salvation.  A person can only come to God if they first know the truth and telling others about Jesus is one of God’s greatest commandments. Prayer

What moves the hand and heart of God?  John 14:13 says, The glory of God is the motive for prayer that moves the heart of God.

John’s Gospel tells us The Kingdom of God suffers violence and the violent take it by force. Christians need to recognize that the violent force you have locked inside of you is prayer and you need to learn how to turn this force loose in order to turn things around.

In addition, we must pray under the direction of the Holy Spirit. The Word says in Romans 8:14, For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.  So, if you pray, continually being led by the Holy Spirit, you will be in alignment with the mind and will of God and the Holy Spirit will intercede on your behalf.

James 5:16 reads, The effective fervent prayer of the righteousness avails much. Effective prayer is exciting prayer.

Many often question, do I really have such power, and as we question ourselves, we doubt, and as we doubt, our faith starts to fail.  Let me offer you another analogy. When we use a water hose, the water comes out of the hose because of pressure applied to the water, even though we do not see the pressure. It’s similar with God’s power.  We do not have the power to drive out demons, to heal, and to bless on our own, but we do have the authority to use God’s hose and to direct God’s power. We do not see the power but we see the results when we direct God’s hose to drive out demons, to heal, and to bless.

Who is our Enemy

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:10-12). Our fight is not against human flesh and blood, but against the evil spirit that is in a person.  And when we stand in the authority of God, as representatives of Jesus, we are ready to attack the demons that are attacking our family, church, and world.

We may be the Problem

Many of the problems we see today in the world and in this country can be traced back to a church that is not praying, that is not open to the Holy Spirit, and to pastors that only teach about the love of God and not the power, requirements, and judgment of God.  Jesus has given us the authority and anointing to come against the enemy, but it only works when we open ourselves to the Holy Spirit.

Some say “God has everything under control.”  That is only partly true.  While God has the end completely under His control, the intermediate control is through the church, and if His children are not open to the movement of the Holy Spirit, are not willing to pray, are not willing to intercede, and are not willing to let the Holy Spirit pray through them, then much of what God wants to accomplish will not be accomplished.  We need to be careful not to blame God for what is our fault.  For example, most Christians complain about the ungodly actions of those in office, but if all Christians prayed and voted, and kept praying, we would have a more righteous government.

Are we doing a good job of representing Jesus?  Are we coming before God in prayer with a pure heart (free of sin and unforgiveness) to pray for the needs of our family, church, and country? Are we coming against the enemy and praying for salvation of our family, friends, co-workers, and stranger the Lord puts on our mind?

The day the lease expires

…there were loud voices in heaven, saying, The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever (Revelation 11:15).  When will this occur? Revelation 20:2 tells us the day the lease expires.  It is the day the Lord seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him. God will then start His full rule on earth with judging those who were His own and those who were not. Those who fallowed and obeyed God, His own, going to heaven and those who refused to accept the payment Jesus paid for their sins, but retained their sins, sins that separating them from God, going to hell.

Summary

In summary, Satan stole the lease from Adam and Eve by deception, just as he deceives us today.  Jesus was born of a woman to have a right to enter earth, Jesus died on the cross as a perfect man to break Satan’s power and to save mankind.  I am the Living One. I was dead, but look, I am alive forever. I have power over death and hell (Revelation 1:18).  Returning to heaven, Jesus gave His power and authority over Satan to the church, to us His children, to exercise through the Holy Spirit.  It is our responsibility as Jesus’ body, to take control of Satan’s power over our lives, our family, our government, and the world.  You will fulfill your responsibility when you come against Satan as one of God’s Kingdom soldiers.  You will be victorious when you surrender to God in trust and let Him work through your prayers. And your prayers of faith, in His authority, will move mountains. It is God’s plan and desire to have a close relationship with you and for you to be victorious and spend eternity with Him.
