How do I feel God’s presence?
Question: “How do I feel God’s presence? How do I draw closer to God?”
At times, we may feel that God is no longer around, but our relationship with God is not by feelings but my faith. He says, I will never leave you, I will never forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). Regardless of our feelings, we know that God is always with us.
God’s presence comes from a relationship with God. This relationship develops through meditation on His Word, talking with Him in prayer, obeying Him, repenting of your sins, forgiving all those who have hurt or wronged you, and loving God. Having a relationship with God permits us to trust God to be the Lord of our life.
1 John 1:9 tells us: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. When fellowship is restored, so is communication.
We draw closer to God as we remove those things in our life that separate of from God.
Jesus said in John 14:21, One who has my commandments, and keeps them, that person is one who loves me. One who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will reveal myself to him. And Jesus said in Matthew 5:6, Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.
One is most likely to feel God’s presence when praising and worshipping God.
James 4:6, 10 tells us, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
James 4:8 tells us to, Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
We feel God’s joy when we are receptive to His presence.
you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand (Psalm 16:11).
