What is the Difference Between Joy and Happiness?
Question: “What is the difference between Joy and Happiness or are they the Same. Can we have God's joy when we are surrounded by unhappiness? How can I receive God's joy?”
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds (James 1:2). But how can we have joy while facing many trials?
The word “joy” comes from the Greek word chara and means "to be exceedingly glad."
Joy is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:22). As we learn to keep our eyes on God rather than our problems, to trust Him, the fruit of joy will be continuously manifested in our lives regardless of what is going on around us. Joy is an internal condition provided by God.
Happiness is not the same as joy. Happiness comes from the pleasure of things surrounding us externally. Happiness is temporary. It does not last.
While happiness is temporary, Joy should be permanent but can also be temporary if we start worrying about our problems and the world problem instead of trusting God with all of our concerns. casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).
When you believe, following Him with trust, you receive God’s inexpressible joy? Though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and filled with glory (1 Peter 1:8).
As we trust in Him, we will experience His joy and happiness. May the God of hope fill me with all joy and peace as I trust in him (Romans 15:13).
