Question: “We see many miracles performed by the early church and many drawn to Jesus because of them, but were are the miracles in today’s church?”

Bible Answers

A man lame since birth lay at the temple gate begging.

Peter said to him, In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk (Acts 3:6) and immediately he was healed (Acts 3:7).

And all the people saw him walking and praising God (Acts 3:9) … and they were filled with wonder and amazement (Acts 3:10).

The priests and Sadducees came upon Peter preaching Jesus to the people and put him in prison until the next day (Acts 4:1-3).

However many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand (Acts 4:4).

The next day the rulers came together and asked Peter by what power or what name have you done this (Acts 4: 7). When Peter said that he did it in the power and name of Jesus, how did the rulers respond? And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus (Acts 4:18). Unfortunately, little has changed, today most churches still deny the miracles of the Holy Spirit are for today. Today most pastors are trying to build God’s church with methods and programs rather with the direction and power of the Holy Spirit.

Paul performed many miracles of healing and casting out demons and he confirmed the Word he preached by demonstrating the power of God through the Holy Spirit and in like manner the early church performed many miracles.

Philip, who was not a disciple, went to Samaria, preaching with signs accompanying him, demons came out and many were healed, resulting in great joy, and the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spoke, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did (Acts 8:6).

God did not include the Book of Acts just to provide us a history lesson. God gave us the book of Acts as a pattern for our lives, ministries, and churches. The early church that Jesus was building is the same church He wants today. We need to lay aside our traditions, entertainment, and committees and start asking Jesus to mold us into the pattern He wants.

Many will claim, “I have never seen a miracle nor have I ever heard of a miracle”. That is not surprising. We can only please God by our faith. If we do not believe and those around us do not believe, then we will miss the miracles that are happening daily around the world in the lives of believing Christians.

Jesus wants a church of power, wonder, and miracles empowered by the Holy Spirit. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1:8).

Many churches, desiring to be user friendly, have set aside the gifts of the Holy Spirit; signs, wonders, and miracles, in the fear that they might offend, including speaking in tongues. But 1 Corinthians 2:14 says, Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not. And Paul said, Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues (1 Corinthians 14:39).

Pastors are responsible to teach the full truth to their congregations, to prepare them to go forth in the power of the Holy Spirit, to perform miracles and to bring the lost through these signs to Jesus.

We must decide, do I want to believe a pastor that is denying the Word of God, or do I want to believe what the Word of God is saying. To know for yourself what the Word of God is saying, you need to spend the time studying the Word of God and ask the Holy Spirit for His guidance.

The following is the last thing Jesus said before returning to heaven.  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (Mark 16:17-18). This statement was made to you and me.

God changes not.  The miracles He provided yesterday He is providing today.  Learn to be guided by the Holy Spirit into His signs, wonders, and miracles.
