What Power is in the name of Jesus?
Question: “What power is in the name of Jesus and how do we operate in that power?”
The Greek meaning for Jesus is Savior while Christ, which was originally more of a title, means anointed one or messiah -
As the Son of God, Jesus had all authority in heaven. As the Son of Man, Jesus had all authority on earth. And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, “All power is given unto Me in Heaven and on earth” (Matthew 28:18).
God exalted the name of Jesus. Wherefore God also has highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name (Philippians 2:9).
Demons submit unto the name of Jesus. And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through your name (Luke 10:17).
We are to believe in the name of Jesus. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ (1 John 3:23).
We are told to do everything in the name of Jesus. And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus (Colossians 3:17).
The apostles operated in the name of Jesus. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk (Acts 3:6). And his name through faith in his name has made this man strong (Acts 3:16).
Salvation is only in the name of Jesus. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
In Exodus 3:14, God told Moses His name, I am. In John 8:58 Jesus said, before Abraham was born, I am.
If we will but believe that we may operate in the power and authority of the name of Jesus, we may ask for anything that is within the will of God and by faith, we will receive it. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name (John 16:23).
Jesus Christ has given Christians the right and authority to use His name. Christians have been given a power of attorney. Power of attorney is the authority to act in another person's behalf. It is authorization given by one person (Jesus) permitting another (Christians) to take action on His (Jesus) behalf. When speaking for Christ, in His will, all the power of heaven is behind you. There is power in the name of Jesus, and Jesus has given us the authority to use His power.
And whatsoever you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you shall ask anything in my name, I will do it (John 14:13-
Often our prayers are not answered because our eyes are on the problem. We see the problem, we speak the problem, and we claim the problem. Rather, start seeing the victory, speaking the victory, and claiming the victory that you are seeking. Take your eyes off the problem and put them on Jesus in worship and praise, claiming the victory in His Holy name.
But why in the Name of Jesus
When an elderly lady gives her son a Power of Attorney to manage her affairs, the document does not say “I give all authority to my eldest son”. Rather the document says “I, Nancy Johnson give all authority to John A. Johnson, my son”. The true authority, by permission, then is held by the son. The name identifies the holder of the authority. In the same way, we have been given legal authority in the named of Jesus Christ.
In the name of Jesus: we are to receive salvation, we worship, we command, we bind the devil, we take captives, we heal, we demand, we declare, we claim, and we always pray in the name of Jesus. There is power in the name of Jesus because of who stands behind the name, the Son of God.
