How will salvation change me?

Question: “What are the changes one should expect after accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior?”

Bible Answers

There are many amazing changes that will occur in our life after salvation and as we grow with the Lord and in His Word.

Salvation moves us from the kingdom of the world and Satan to the kingdom of God.  His Word gives us assurance that,

All of our sins have been forgiven and God remembers them no more (1 John 1:9).

The punishment for our sins is paid-in-full by the blood of Jesus (Romans 5:8).

We suddenly feel free and cleansed.

We have a new friend that will never leave us or forsake us (Heb. 13:5).

Our spirit is renewed (Psalm 51:10).

The Holy Spirit takes up permanent residence in us to lead, direct, and teach us (1 Cor. 6:19).

We have a desire to read the Bible.

We have a desire to tell others about our new relationship with God.

We have a desire to want to please God.

We notice that the hole in us, the emptiness that has always been with us is now gone, filled with the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit produces the fruit of the Spirit in us. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

As we receive God’s love, we will notice that we have greater love and patience for others.

We gain a greater and greater understanding of God’s great love for us.

As we learn to love God, we learn to completely trust God, and we learn how to cast all of our problems on God because He cares for us.  As we cast our cares on Him, we no longer have the care and we start to experience God’s joy and peace in our lives (1 Peter 5:7).

As we learn God’s instructions and obey, we start to walk more and more in His blessings (Deu. 28:1-13).

While some changes are instantaneous, other changes are a growing process as we learn and obey what God wants and has for us.  Some Christians do not experience these fruit of the Spirit because they permit the old self, ego, and pride to dominate rather than permitting the Spirit of God to dominate their lives.  It is the Holy Spirit that gives us love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

We learn from His Word and the Holy Spirit how to please God, and as we change, we become more like Jesus.
