What is Satan’s intent?
Question: “What is Satan's Intent and desire for mankind? What are his weapons and what are our weapons?”
Of the millions of angels in heaven, only three angels are mentioned by name in the Bible, they are Michael, Gabriel, and Lucifer. These angels are considered Archangels as the Greek prefix 'arch' means ruler or Chief. Lucifer means “Morning Star.” He led the worship of God. Because of his great beauty and position, pride started to well up in Lucifer and he started to think that he should be worshipped as God. You said in your heart, “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High” (Isaiah 14:13-
Lucifer along with 1/3 of the angels in heaven who were under his leadership, rebelled against God and lost. He and his fallen angels were cast out of heaven and he was called Satan and his fallen angels were called demons or evil spirits.
Later God created man in His own image and let him rule over the world (Genesis 1:26). He told Adam and Eve they had dominion, authority, and power to subdue and rule over the world. The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men (Psalm 115:16).
When Satan saw that Adam and Eve had unconditional authority, he wanted what they had.
Lucifer knew that if he could deceive Adam and Eve into willingly relinquishing their authority to him, that with Adam and Eve’ authority, he would become the god of this world. While Satan won the battle he still lost the war. We will see that each of Satan’s plans to defeat God ends in his own defeat.
And I will put enmity between you [Satan] and the woman [mankind], and between your seed and her seed [Jesus]; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel (Genesis 3:15). The “seed” of the woman is the coming Savior, Jesus Christ. Satan understood the importance of the “seed” [Jesus], and as we will see, tries a number of times to eliminate the “seed”. The seed must come at the right time, in the right place, and through the right lineage. If Satan had eliminated any of these conditions, he would have stopped the “seed” and redemption.
Adam and Eve had two sons, Cain, who chose to follow Satan, and Abel, who chose to follow God. Satan’s first attempt to eliminate the seed was to eliminate the lineage by inciting Cain to kill his brother Abel. God countered by giving Adam and Eve a third son, Seth, whom carried on the lineage. And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed (Genesis 4:25).
Satan’s next attempt of ruining the lineage was by having angels in the form of men, take women of the earth as wives. When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose (Genesis 6:1-
God countered by bringing a worldwide flood (Genesis 7-
Satin’s next attack was to encourage Nimrod, the leader of the people to form a one-
And what did God think of Babylon? Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth (Revelation 17:5).
And God countered by confusing their language so they stopped building the tower and were dispersed over the face of the earth (Genesis 11:5-
From Seth’s righteous lineage, God called Abram, meaning “exalted father,” to leave his home country and start a line of people, who would later become Israel. From Israel would come the “seed” of the “woman”, Jesus. God would change Abram’s name to Abraham, which means “father of a great multitude” (Genesis 17:5). During this time, Abraham remained pure, not being tainted by Nimrod’s revolt against God. Even the birth of his son was a miracle, as they were way past the age of having a child, Abraham being 100 years old and his wife being 90.
Because of a famine, the new family of Israel went to Egypt for food and after 400 years, they had grown into several million people. Then Satan gave the Egyptians a fear of the Israelites and commanded that all new male babies be murdered at birth. God countered by rescuing the Israelites from Egypt with mighty miracles and taking them to the land He had promised.
While the people of Israel often failed God, they still were the people who gave us the Bible and the people who give us the birth of the “seed”, Jesus.
Through God’s prophets, He foretold that the “seed” would come from the tribe of Judah, and from the lineage of King David who was of the tribe of Judah. Many times it appeared that Satan was sending Israel’s enemies to destroy Israel and kill the “seed’s” lineage, but God always saved a remnant of the “seed’s” lineage.
Even at birth, Satan enticed Herod the Great to kill the newly born baby Jesus in Bethlehem, but God told Joseph in a dream to take Mary and the baby to Egypt.
When Jesus was about 33 and had completed about three and a half years of His ministry, Satan excited the people, who the previous day were praising Jesus, to demand that He be crucified. Satan must have been delighted, he was sure that he had finally won. Jesus was dead. However, his joy was short lived. On the third day, Jesus came back to life just has he promised (Matt 16:21; 17:23). Rather than Satan winning, he again lost. But this time he also lost the authority that he stole from Adam and Eve. Jesus took back the authority and returned it to mankind, to those who through faith will use the authority that God originally intended for man.
And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross (Colossians 2:15).
Having lost, Satan’s new intent
Throughout history, Satan had tried to stop the “seed”, but all of his attempts failed. With the resurrection of Jesus, Satan could no longer stop Jesus, so he turned his attention toward those whom he hated most, those that looked like God and operated like God, man. Satan is continuously attacking God’s children to deceive them and convince them that God is not dependable, is not to be trusted, and will not fulfill His Word. He is always encouraging us to turn from God to ourselves and to his world. We are in a war. Satan attacks our bodies and our minds to destroy us, and as we turn to God in faith God rescues us.
Satan’s intent was to prevent the “seed” of woman, Jesus, from occurring, then his intent was to destroy Jesus, and now, in the time he has left, Satan’s intent is to destroy the children that God loves. Satan’s primary weapon is his fiery darts of deception and false situations he manifests in our lives. Our weapons are the Word of God, the love of God, trust in God, and the authority and power of God has given us in faith to repel the devil.
I give you authority to tread…over ALL the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19). In my name, they will cast out demons (Mark 16:17).
Satan may be the god of this world for the time being as his lease has not expired, but he has always lost each of his attempts to defeat God, and in the end times he will meet his final defeat in the lake of fire.
