Where does the Spirit dwell?
Question: “Where does the spirit and the Holy Spirit dwell in believers and is there a difference between our spirit and the Holy Spirit?”
The spirit of man is provided at birth by the Lord Almighty (Genesis 2:7, Psalm 104:30), and upon our death, the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7).
When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, He gives us the Holy Spirit who resides with out spirit. the Spirit of truth [Holy Spirit], whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and is in you (John 14:17).
While the Holy Spirit dealt with man before Jesus crucifixion, afterwards, He dwells with man. By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified (John 7:39).
We become the temple of God when we accept Jesus. Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?(1 Corinthians 3:16). Most believe that the Holy Spirit resides with our spirit.
But were does the spirit dwell within us?
Jesus said that the spirit literally dwells in our belly.
He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this spoke he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive (John 7:38-
The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly (Proverbs 20:27).
The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly (Proverbs 18:8).
So where does the spirit of man dwell? He dwells in our belly.
