What does the Bible say about tattoos?
Question: “What does the Bible say about having tattoos? Are tattoos permitted?”
The New Testament does not say anything about whether or not a believer should get a tattoo, but the Old Testament does commanded, Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD (Leviticus 19:28).
Why would God forbid tattoos? We do not know, but God may not want us marking the body He designed and may not want us to bring attention to ourselves rather than Him.
A tattoo makes a statement about ourselves, but God’s desire is that the purity of our Christian lives should make a statement of who we are in Jesus.
