What is the cleansing blood of Jesus?

Question: “What cleansing is available to us through the blood of Jesus?”

Bible Answers

We Gain Access to God

Because of our sins, we are alienated and separated from God and are unable to approach God to offer worship or prayer (Col. 1:21), except for repentance.  But as a Christian, We have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus (Hebrews 10:19).  Now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been made near by the blood of Christ (Ephesians 2:13).

We Gain Forgiveness of Sin

Through the blood of Christ, our sins are forgiven.  In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:7). Christ said, “For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matthew 26:28).

We Gain a Cleansed Conscience

Through the blood of Christ, Christians receive the cleansing of their consciences.  How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! (Hebrews 9:14)

We Gain Sanctification

We are sanctified (set apart, to be holy) through the blood of Christ.  Jesus also suffered … in order to sanctify the people through his own blood (Hebrews 13:12). Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).  Holy means set apart from sin or sinless, dedicated to God, belonging to God. We need to be living by God's standards, not the world's. That is why God gives us the power, through the blood of His Son, to be cleansed from our sinful behavior. If we are not cleansed and holy, we will not see the Lord as it is sin that separates us from God and sin that keeps us out of heaven.

We Gain the Righteousness of Christ

For he made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that I might be made the righteousness of God in Him (2 Cor. 5:21).

We Gain Power Over the devil

Because of Christ’s sacrifice and the spilling of His blood on our behalf, we can trust the righteousness of Christ and not our own righteousness when our enemy accuses us. And they have conquered him [Satan] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony (Rev 12:11). To learn more about our authority over Satan, click.

When the devil accuses us, we stand not in our righteousness, but in Christ’s pure and perfect righteousness and we rebuke the devil.

We are rescued from a life devoid of God and brought into a relationship with God.  For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect (1 Peter 1:18-19). We are rescued from a life of false meaning and are brought into a relationship with God and the ability to live in His will and purpose.

1 Peter 1:18 calls silver and gold perishable things because they are meaningless when compared to the precious blood of Jesus Christ. That is because the blood of Jesus gives Christians access to God, forgiveness of sins, a clean conscience, salvation, sanctification, victory over the enemy, and a loving relationship with God.  All the gold in the world cannot buy this.

Summary

The precious blood of Jesus brings us forgiveness and cleansing of our sins, access to God, sanctification, righteousness, healing of mind and body, power over the devil, and being rescued from hell.
